Q: What is the difference between Source and Fulfil in Retail Express?

In Retail Express, Source is the outlet the stock comes from. Fulfil is the outlet that picks or dispatches for the customer. Staff set both on the Fulfilment tab (per line or bulk edit). The list of outlets follows each user’s permissions.

Q: How is cross-store POS selling different from multi-store POS software?

Multi-store POS (also searched as multi store pos, multi store pos system, multi store pos software, or multi store point of sale) is the whole network: one product file, stock across outlets, transfers, and often ecommerce. That is covered on multi-store retail. Cross-store POS selling is the till workflow inside that network: sell an item that lives in another store without sending the customer away.

Q: Can staff still create a transfer in Retail Express without a sale?

Yes. Separate from sale-driven ITOs, staff with Allow Transfers permission can send and receive stock from POS Transfers. That is for moving inventory between stores without ringing a customer sale. See stock transfers.

When the customer wants an item you do not have on the shelf, but another of your stores does, you should not lose the sale to phone tag. Retail Express lets staff sell stock from another store at the till, set source and fulfil on the sale, and keep the customer moving.

Can Retail Express sell stock from another store at the till?

Yes. In Retail Express, staff use POS Advanced Search, switch the outlet filter to the store that has stock, add the item to the sale, then set Source and Fulfil on the Fulfilment tab. The customer pays at your till while stock is allocated at the other outlet.

Does selling from another store create a stock transfer in Retail Express?

Often yes. When Source and Fulfil are different outlets, Retail Express can create an internal transfer order (ITO) for that sale so stock moves for the order. When Source and Fulfil are the same, no ITO is needed. See stock transfers.

Can cross-store POS selling use Cash & Carry in Retail Express?

No for this workflow. Cross-store lines need a method such as Pickup, Delivery, or Warehouse Pickup, because the product is not sitting in your store for walk-out. Fulfilment usually flips away from Cash & Carry when stock comes from another outlet.

Is cross-store selling only for large retail chains?

No. In Retail Express, any retailer with two or more stores, or a warehouse plus shops, can sell stock from another outlet at POS. For the wider multi-store platform (pricing, channels, group reporting), see multi-store retail.

Does the customer have to pick up from the store that held the stock?

Not always. In Retail Express you can set Source to the stocking outlet and Fulfil to the store where the customer will pick up, or use Delivery so the goods go to them. The right Source/Fulfil pair drives whether an ITO is created.
