Manual tracking leads to overselling reserved stock and messy accounting. Built-in layby software in Retail Express automatically reserves inventory, calculates minimum deposits, and tracks part payments directly at the POS, ensuring your stock levels and accounting sync (like Xero or MYOB) are always accurate.

Staff create a layby sale at POS, collect a minimum deposit, and reserve stock. Customers return to make part payments until the balance is zero, then staff fulfil and finalise the sale. Payment and fulfilment status are tracked independently.

Processing a layby reduces Available stock and increases reserved stock. The product remains on hand but is reserved for that customer until fulfilled or cancelled.

Yes. Configure minimum deposit as a dollar value or percentage in Order Settings. A separate minimum can apply to special orders. POS security controls whether staff can override the minimum.

Lay-by is store-managed: you hold stock and collect instalments over time. BNPL providers finance the customer at checkout. Retail Express supports both. See buy now pay later at POS for Afterpay and Zip.

Retail Express uses the lay-by model built into its own POS and inventory system (often called layaway in other regions). It is not the Shopify POS layaway app. If you run Shopify online, customer and order data can still flow through your Retail Express platform alongside in-store layby workflows.

The Retail Express Layby Balances Report shows balances as at a specific date. The Layby Movement Report tracks sales, payments, vouchers and freight over a period. In accounting, "layby sales" includes any sale not fully paid and fulfilled same-day at the same store, not only POS layby fulfilment.

Yes. Historical lay-by transactions can be entered during implementation before go-live, with products, customers and payments loaded against enabled payment types.
