Christmas, Mother’s Day and Easter are no longer the only major dates in the retail calendar – special sale events are rapidly gaining in popularity among shoppers. The next chance to jump on the event-shopping bandwagon is right around the corner, with Afterpay holding its popular AfterYAY sale from Wednesday 14 to Thursday 15 August 2019. Afterpay retailers are invited to sign up to the sale, where shoppers will be offered various discounts and offers on a wide range of products from fashion, beauty, sports, hardware and homewares.

Taking part in the AfterYAY sale by offering customers exclusive offers is a great way to help optimise sales and boost engagement. It also allows you to connect with new customers by tapping directly into the 2.7 million-strong Afterpay audience: during the sale period, consumers from across AU and New Zealand will scour the Afterpay Shop Directory and Afterpay App for the best deals on offer and share their finds with friends and family across social media (#AFTERYAYSALE). Customers (including those who might not have been aware of your brand before the event) will be taken directly to your website from the Afterpay Shop Directory or App where they will have the opportunity to explore the deals on offer and actively engage with your brand.

Since its inception in 2017, the AfterYAY sale has enjoyed continued growth in both scale and kudos, and is now considered a key event in Australian and New Zealand shopper’s calendars – in particular, among millennials, who are drawn to its zero-interest, flexible payment terms (and this is one sector you don’t want to ignore – according to Macquarie Bank research, millennials will be earning two out of every three Australian dollars by 2030).The results for retailers taking part in the AfterYAY sale events have been impressive so far. Recent figures reveal:

  • 43% increase in the value of sales for participating retailers compared to the previous week
  • 48% growth in the average number of daily transactions for participating retailers compared to the previous week
  • 350% increase in referrals from the Afterpay Shop Directory website to retailer websites compared to the daily average over the last 30 days

The customer opens their Afterpay Mobile App in-store to make a purchase; a barcode is generated in their Afterpay Mobile App; the retailer scans the barcode and processes the transaction in Retail Express.
